Martin And Young Lead Crusaders Over The Weekend

Chester, Pa. (Feb. 4, 2012) - The Men's Track and Field team competed at both the Widener Indoor Invitational and Frank Colden Invitational on Friday night and Saturday.  Freshmen Andrew Martin (Thornton, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Brandon Young (Baltimore, Ms/Loyola Blakefield) each broke an individual school record and ran legs on school record setting relays.

Martin placed second in the pole vault on Friday night and followed that up with a win on Saturday.  His jumps of 4.25 on both days, broke the school record and currently place him in second in the MAC.  Young placed second in the triple jump and third in the long jump on Friday night.  His mark in the long jump was a lifetime best and broke the school record in the event.

Young and Martin teamed up with Freshmen Zach Wilson (Newark, De./Caravel Academy) and Tyrone McCloud (Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) to earn a second place finish at in the 4x200m relay at the Frank Colden Invitational.  The foursome broke the school record in the process.  Young and McCloud also teamed with freshmen Cody Hughes (Bordsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) and Indeo Ragsdale (Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) to place third and break the school record in the 4x400m relay.

Individually, McCloud also broke the school record in the 60m dash in the prelims and then again in the finals of the event.  His performance earned him the third seed heading into finals before finishing fourth.  Hughes earned a sixth place finish in the 400m dash, running a lifetime best in the process.  Ragsdale finished 14th in the same event, narrowly missing the MAC qualifying mark in his first indoor event.  Wilson ran a seasons best in the 200m dash, also just outside the MAC qualifying mark, while freshmen Josh Streeter (Paoli, Pa./Great Valley) and Peter MacNamee (Dublin, Pa./Pennridge) both earned bests in the weight throw and 5000m run, respectively.

The Crusaders travel back to Collegeville on Friday for the Ursinus College Open.  The Track events start at 3pm with the field events beginning at 4pm.
