Young Wins Triple Jump Crown At MAC Indoors

RESULTS

Bethlehem, Pa. (Feb. 25, 2012) – Freshman Brandon Young (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) won the men's triple jump by a tenth of a meter at the Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Lehigh leading Alvernia University to a sixth place finish with 32 points.  Head Coach Kilgore noted that, "everyone competed very well today.  We were looking to cap the indoor season off well and feel that we were able to do that.  Our student athletes were able to earn 17 All MAC honors including two Conference Champions.  As in any championship meet there are ups and downs, but we had a lot more ups than downs today and had many athletes outperform seeds and earn spots in the podium."

Young earned three First Team All-MAC medals anchoring both the 4x200m and 4x400m relays which finished third and set a new school record for the 4x400m in the process.  The top three finishers in all events were named First Team.  Tyrone McCloud (Lindenwold, N.J./Lindenwold) and Zach Wilson (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy) ran with Young on both relays.  Andrew Martin (Thornton, Pa./Garnet Valley) was the fourth in the 200 and Cody Hughes (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) the fourth in the 400.

Young entered Saturday's Championship the top seed in the triple jump and the second seed in the long jump.  He nailed the winner in the triple on his second jump with a mark of 13.53m.  Kilgore was "really pleased with Brandon's win in the triple jump, especially coming back after the long jump.  It's tough to reset and really a testament to the work he's put in for him to be able to do that."

McCloud added to the Crusaders' medal count picking up Second Team honors with a fourth place finish in the 60m dash that set a new school record and qualified him for the upcoming ECACs.  McCloud also posted a fifth place finish in the 200m.  Hughes was Second Team in the 400m dash, also with a fifth place finish.  Additionally, Indeo Ragsdale (Lindenwold, N.J./Lindenwold) earned a medal himself with a sixth place finish in the 60m hurdles and Kevin Griffin earned All-MAC honors with his six place finish in the Heptathlon.
