Crusaders Compete At The Danny Curran Invitational At Widener

COMPLETE RESULTS

Chester, Pa. (Mar. 31, 2012) - The Alvernia University Men's and Women's Track and Field teams competed at the Danny Curran Inviational on Fri. Mar. 30 and Sat. Mar. 31.  Melissa Fellenbaum (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) tied for first in the Pole Vault on Saturday with a new school record jump.  Her jump of 3.70m ties her best mark from the indoor season, and currently places her fifth in the NCAA.  “Melissa had a great day, she ran a great leg on our 4x100m relay and to come out and jump 3.70m on a day like today shows the kind of competitor and athlete that she is”, said Coah Kilgore.

Two other school records were broken on the women's side Saturday afternoon.  Freshman Karlee Kominsky (York, Pa./Northeastern) reset her own high jump record with her ninth place finish at 1.50m.  She later teamed up with sophomore Erin Verdon (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional), sophomore Jeanne Knowles and senior Erin Stone (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) to shatter the school record in the 4x400m relay by over 20 seconds.  Verdon also reached the MAC qualifying mark in the 100m dash, while Knowles improved her seasons best in the 800m run.

Freshman Rachel Heisler (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) had an outstanding day of her own.  The freshman finished tenth in the hammer throw, narrowly missing the final in a loaded field by 7cm.  Her mark of 35.43m improves upon her season's best by almost 2m.  Sophomore Amanda Searle (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) also added a season's best in the discus throw.

Kilgore summed up the meet - “Myself and the coaching staff were really pleased by the efforts of the women's team.  We're especially pleased with how we were able to execute."

The Crusaders have this weekend off for Easter and will be back in action on April 14 at the WCU Invitational, hosted by West Chester University.
