West Chester, Pa. (April 14, 2012) - Senior
Brian Nerney (Middletown, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) broke his own school record in the HIgh Jump to take first place and earn an ECAC qualifying mark on Saturday at West Chester. Nerney's mark of 2.01m is the best among MAC athletes so far and currently ranks him 15 in the NCAA. Freshman
Brandon Young (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) added a first place finish against a very strong field in the triple jump, continuing Young's string of success in the event. Young also added a sevenyj place finish in the long jump and teamed up with freshman
Tyrone McCloud (Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold),
Zachary Wilson (Newark, De./Caravel Acad.) and
Andrew Martin (Thornton, Pa./Garnet Valley) to finish fourth in the 4x100m relay.
McCloud earned two top five finishes in individual races, setting a new school record in the 100m dash, placing fifth and running 11.22, while he finished fourth in the 200m dash, running 22.99. Martin added a fourth place finish of his own in the pole vault.
Freshman
Cody Hughes (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) ran a lifetime best and lowered his own school record of 2:01.99, finishing sixth in the 800m run. Sophomore
Dillon Emery (Locustdale, Pa./North Schuylkill) narrowly missed the finals in the hammer throw, placing tenth in a loaded field, breaking the school record with a throw of 34.91m
Head Coach Kilgore was impressed with the men's performance, “The men competed really well today, we had great conditions and were able to get some very good performances. Brian had a great high jump today. To be at 2.01m in only his second meet is the spring is great. Brandon beat a really competitive field in the Triple Jump and Cody ran a really nice 800m, getting almost a second second personal best.”
The Crusaders have two more meets to qualify and prepare for the MAC conference championship meet. They will be back in action next Saturday at East Stroudsburg University.
