West Chester, Pa. (April 14, 2012) - Junior
Melissa Fellenbaum (Mount Joy, Pa./Hempfield) won her third straight meet this outdoor season at West Chester on Saturday. Her winning jump set a new school record and personal best for Fellenbaum. Her jump of 3.75m, currently places her 6th in the NCAA.
Freshman
Karlee Kominsky (York, Pa./Northeastern) rounded out the sweeping of the women's vertical jumps by taking the top spot in high jump. With her clearance of 1.64m, Kominsky becomes the second Crusader women to earn an ECAC qualifying mark and currently sits 18 in the NCAA.
Fellenbaum and Kominsky teamed up with
Erin Verdon (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional) and
Bridget Verdel (Hamilton Square, NJ/Notre Dame) in the 4x100m relay to run a seasons best of 53.97, just .01 off the school record. Verdon and Kominsky also ran the first two legs of the 4x400m relay, teaming with Jeanne Knowles and
Erin Stone (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling springs) to place second, breaking the school record the quartet smashed last week. Knowles, Verdon and Verdel also added seasons bests in the 800m, 100m and pole vault respectively.
In the throwing events,
Rachel Heisler (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) and
Amanda Searle (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) again had solid days. Heisler made the finals in both the discus and hammer throws, placing ninth and seventh, while Searle placed sixth and eighth in the hammer throw and shot put.
Coach Kilgore was please with the team's performance, "today was a very good day for the program. We've had some great training since our last meet, great weather and everyone capitalized. Melissa had a great day and this was the breakout performance we've known Karlee was capable of. She had some really good attempts at 1.69m as well.”
The Crusaders have two more meets to qualify and prepare for the MAC conference championship meet. They will be back in action next Saturday at East Stroudsburg University.
