DISTRICT ONE AAA GIRLS TEAM PREVIEW by Bill Coren (Strath Haven)
Upon analyzing the SEEDS (and taking into consideration 2005 results and the events athletes will most likely enter) , this year\'s AAA Girls District Team Race appears to be a 7-team battle. It actually could all come down to the last event on Saturday---the 4x400!!! Conestoga (41+) should score in the 400, 1600, 4x400, 4x800, HJ and TJ. Methacton (42+) (Krais) will score 30 in the LJ, 100H, and 300H and in the 4x400 and Methacton perhaps the Jav and LJ. Strath Haven (46+) (tie5th 2005 1st 2004, 4th 2003) will get points in the 100H, 300H, 100, 1600, 3200, 4x100, 4x400, and perhaps the Shot and Jav. CB WEST (47+) (tie5th 2005 6th 2004) is strong in the 400, 800, 4x400, 4x800, TJ, and all of the throws (especially Jav). WC HEND (52+) (3rd 2005) will tally in the 100, 200, 800, 1600, 3200, HJ, and of course (like INDOOR) all 3 relays! North Penn (56+)(2nd 2002) looks to be #2 gathering many points off the track in the Pole, HJ, LJ, Disc, and Jav as well as scoring in the 300H and all 3 relays! The favorite appears to be the defending champ and the HOME team-Coatesville (62+) (1st 2005 4th 2004)--Their thrower will score high in the shot and Disc and their jumpers will chip away in the LJ, Tj, and HJ and they will also score in the 100, 400, 800, 100H, 300H, and the 4x100.
As for STATES---My hat is off to the Methacton coach who could have attempted to win States using Krais in 4 individual events, but chose instead to run the 4x400. It may pay off in two ways--team harmony and maybe a STATE TITLE any way!!! Krais should win both hurdles and maybe the LJ and the 4x4 could be at least 3rd (28+6=34). The other District One teams will have difficulty scoring more than 30 at States (Example Strath Haven--Vienneau 14 in 1600 and 3200--Kelly 8 in the hurdles--4x1? 4x4? WE\'LL ALL SEE SOON!!! GO DISTICT ONE!!!
