Second Half 3/4 @ Widener University

Somehow they found the energy to give their best, even if it was only three days after the State Championships. The completion of the snow-delayed PCL Championships resumed at Widener University. State 800 champ Latavia Thomas went 2:17.37 to hold off a determined Mary Debevec of Cardinal O'Hara, 2nd in 2:19.49. Debevec had set a PR in the opening leg of the state 4x800 to give her team a lead. O'Hara took the PCL 3200 relay with a 9:49.89. Nicole Leach, West Catholic, was named the Track athlete of the meet with her third individual championship, adding the 200 (25.32) to her 60 dash and 400 wins at Lehigh. Denise Tegkowski was the Field athlete of the meet, winning the Triple Jump with a 34-09 effort. She had taken the Long Jump at Lehigh, and gotten a 4th in the 60 Hurdles. The 3000 was strong, as expected, as teammates Rachel Papin and Amy Kelly of St. Hubert's battled to a one-two, with Papin winning by .20 in 10:33.61. Papin had gone 20 seconds faster at States in getting 2nd place. Steve Hallinan helped his team take the 4x800 in 8:27.36, while also earning a championship in the 3000 in 9:08.49. He was named the meet's top Track athlete after winning the two distance races, the Mile at Lehigh. O'Hara also took the 4x400 in 3:37.29. Archbishop Ryan was the girls' team champion, while Cardinal O'Hara took the boys' title.

First Half 2/16 @ Lehigh University

The storm arrived much earlier than predicted (by about 6-7 hours) in the Philadelphia area, but by that time, most of the athletes and coaches were well on their way to Lehigh University. The snow held off in southern Lehigh County where the meet was held, but meantime back in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Delaware and Chester counties, it was near whiteout conditions by noon. Those conditions led PCL officials to postpone the meet. In events completed, Nicole Leach, West Catholic, was off to a great start, taking the 60 in 7.84 and the 400 in 56.95. She also helped her 800 meter relay team get 2nd in 1:45.05 to Archbishop Ryan's 1:44.12. Teammate Latavia Thomas was 2nd in the 400 in 57.89. Ryan's Denise Tetkowski took the Long Jump with a leap of 17-10.50, and had the 4th fastest time in the 60 Hurdles trials, which were suspended. In addition to the events mentioned, only the Mile, DMR, High Jump and Pole Vault were completed. The Shot Put finals were set to begin when the meet ended. In the boys' competition, O'Hara's Bob McDade captured the Shot Put with a throw of 52-09.75. Juan Cave, St. Joseph's Prep, cleared 6-04 in the High Jump. Seven events were completed, with the Trials of the 60 Dash and 60 Hurdles, as well.
