Conestoga\'s Liz Costello was 3rd in 17:59. Pre-Season NE#10 Allentown Central Catholic was 4th behind Warwick Valley NY, Colts Neck NJ, and Warwick Valley NY. Northeast #9 West Chester East suffered a 2-point upset loss to Cumberland Valley, 131-133 at the Paul Short Run. The race was won by junior Craig Forys of Colts Neck NJ in 15:14. East\'s Duriel Hardy was 2nd just two seconds back, following at 15:22 by Cumberland Valley #1 Curtis Bixler.

Culpeper senior and #1 state ranked Devin Cornwall posted the state\'s fastest 5K time thus far this season with a fourth place finishing effort of 15:31 at the Paul Short Invitational held at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. The invitational included many of the state of Pennsylvania\'s best. Cornwall has found strong competition in the past two weeks at the Great American Race of Champions as well as Paul Short this weekend to better prepare him for what should be a highly competitive state meet in November.

Thanks to perfect racing weather conditions and dry, racetrack-like course, lightning fast times were recorded in the college races at the Paul Short Run with many of the state\'s programs in attendance. The short-handed Virginia Intermont College men (16th) and University of Richmond women (13th) were the top Virginia schools in the invitational divisions, while Richmond\'s John Ciccarelli (24:09.9), Amanda Russell (21:35.8), and Katie Van Horn (21:35.8) had the top individual performances of the day. The CNU women were the sole Virginia school to win a team title as they won the 6K open division. VMI (23rd) and U of R (29th) men have strong team performances in invitiational division.

10/1 WKND: Ward, Weller win Steel City-Cumb. Valley upends WC East Lehigh-Bower, Latrobe roll. Don Rich Sep 29, 2005

Katherine Ward is no longer an emerging star in PA. She proved the point with a big win over a talented field at the Steel City Invitational. A field that included defending champ Sarah Morrison of Chambersburg. Ward went 19:20, Morris 19:25, and Kate Ross 19:37, Chambersburg won the girls team, with 67, O;Hara 94, Council Rock North 174. Boyertown\'s Jason Weller ran 15:49, with Conestoga Valley Vince McNally at 15:56, and Greg Thomas, O\'Hara 16:10. Coatesville won for the 2nd week in a row. getting78, with O\'Hara at 122 and Parkland at 166. Natalie Bower is rocking western PA cross country this season, and she has company.
