CLARION WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT DISTRICT 9 CLASS AA BOYS' TRACK & FIELD TITLE 
MAY 19, 2001
CLARION - The Clarion Area boys' track and field team captured its fourth straight District 9 Class AA title and its fifth crown in six years Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Clarion. 
Clarion won with a score of 107. Kane followed the Bobcats with a 92-point, second-place performance.

Along with the team title win, Clarion's Mario Bernardi captured the James Manners Award for the most outstanding boys' performance.

BRADFORD WINS DISTRICT 9 CLASS AAA BOYS' TRACK & FIELD TITLE

BROOKVILLE - Zack Brodis and Rob Cedar were double winners as Bradford won its third straight boys' team title at the District 9 Class AAA Track and Field Championships Wednesday at Brookville Area High School.
Brodis won titles in the shot put and discus while Cedar won the 800-meter run and ran a leg on the winning 3,200 relay with Joe Konwinski, Scott Fargo and Greg Housler.

Bradford's win was much closer this year as the Owls outpointed runner-up DuBois, 135.33-113. Last year, Bradford beat runner-up DuBois, 163-75.

Rounding out the rest of the field was Punxsutawney (57.33 points), St. Marys (40.33) and Clearfield (29).

All district champions advance to the PIAA Championships held May 25-26 at Shippensburg University.

The Owls claimed district titles in seven events. Other winners were Shawn Colligan in the 300 hurdles, Josh Lanich in the 3,200 run and Ken Ciolek in the javelin.

DuBois' Marc Sedor won the James Manners Award for the outstanding boys' performance. Sedor won the 100, 200 and 400 dashes and ran a leg on the winning 1,600 relay.

Punxsutawney's Kevin Porada won the pole vault and long jump.

LADY CRUSADERS END BROOKVILLE'S DOMINANCE

CLARION- Elk County Christian ended Brookville's district title reign by winning the District 9 Class AA girls' track and field title at Saturday at Memorial Stadium. 
Brookville had won the last six district titles before the Lady Crusaders dethroned them. ECC won with a score of 99 to second-place Brookville's 68.

Ridgway's Erin Carter won the James Manners Award for most outstanding girls' performance.

BROOKVILLE - Domination.
The DuBois Area High School girls' track and field team shook off a 19-year drought and routed the field at the District 9 Class AAA Track and Field Championships Wednesday at Brookville Area High School.

The Lady Beavers' 141.5 points were 50 better than runner-up Bradford. Punxsutawney (54), St. Marys (53.5) and Clearfield (35) rounded out the field.

The Lady Beavers scored 110 points on the track and wound up qualifying 13 athletes in eight events for the PIAA Championships held May 25-26 at Shippensburg University.

DuBois Area senior Megan Gudalis won the James Manners Award for the outstanding girls' performance. She defending her district titles in the 100 and 300 hurdles, and ran a leg on the school record-breaking 1,600 relay with Heidi Brumbaugh, Jesselyn Greiner and Morgan Stewart.

Overall, DuBois captured eight titles and 10 second-place finishes.

DuBois' Sarah Cole won her third straight 3,200 run title as did Ashley Swope in the pole vault with a meet record height of 10 feet.

The 400 relay consisting of three freshmen, Jenni Snedden, Torre Sedor and Katie Shick, and junior Casey Stewart, broke a meet record with a time of 51.31 seconds.

DuBois winning 3,200 relay was made up of Sarah Cole and her younger sister Jenny, Greiner and Rachel Robitzer.

Sara McCleary won her first title in the high jump.

Clearfield's Jen Marsh had another good outing at districts, winning the 800 and 1,600 runs. St. Marys got wins from three sophomores in Tessa Babik in the 100 dash, Sonya Swanson in the 200 dash and Amber Smith in the long jump.

Despite finishing second, Bradford had only one champion, Abby Nelson in the discus.

Punxsutawney got titles from Kassy Blose in the javelin, Ann Doty in the triple jump and Renea Shaffer in the 400 dash.
