Langley-Walker and Karpenko lead the field
We talked about how crazy we expect the long jump to be, but
the triple jump could generate just as much drama. The top seeds---Cheltenham's
Madison Langely-Walker and State College's Veronika Karpenko---are separated by a
mere quarter inch. They also happen to be US#12 and US#15.
Langley-Walker most recently took over the top spot in the state with her leap at DVGTCA Meet of Champs. But Karpenko soared past 40 feet to win the AAA state title outdoors last year. She's been consistently in the high 36s and better. Meanwhile, Langely-Walker has steadily improved in the event. This matchup has all the makings of a thrilling one.

Greensburg Salem's Julia Howard is another one to watch. Howard has had a busy winter season, and she's only lost one meet (she was second at Youngstown State in January). It may take a 38 feet performance by Howard to win it, but she's done that outdoors last summer. Downingtown East's Evelyn Berecz hasn't lost this season in the triple, and is definitely looking to put herself in the gold conversation.
There's a lot to watch for in the sand at Penn State, and luckily fans should get a good view of all the action on Sunday.
