The defending has company this year
The shot put will be a battle between three different
regions of PA. Emily Stauffer of Cocalico enters the event as the defending
state champion, but she won't be without some company on Sunday. Neumann
Goretti's Janese Lynch has had a very solid season to this point, not losing at
all and consistently being right around the 44-45 mark. The there's Hickory's
Tori McKinley. McKinley's best throw came at a TSTCA meet in late January. She
was tenth a year ago, but she has vastly improved this time around.
These are the clear favorites before a two-three foot drop off. Stauffer hasn't been throwing the distances she did a year ago, but we know she has it in her. If we catch Stauffer on her best day, is there anyway Lynch and McKinley will have an answer? Like most events, this one in particular will be about who brings their best efforts to Sunday.

After the top three, Burrell's Elizabeth Weimer, Montieau's Maura Kimmel, and Garnet Valley's Nina Gambacorta make up the next echelon. Gambacorta was fifth a year ago, while Weimer was seventh. Another one to watch out for is Kutztown's Jocelen Ruth, who was the second top returner, having placed fourth a year ago.
