BOYS: Winchester Thurston's Ben Littman outlasted last year PIAA Class-A runner-up Noah Curtin and Jimmy Zimmerman, both of Mercyhurst Prep for the win. Littman ran 16:57 as Curtin posted a 17:16 and Zimmerman 17:23.
Mercyhurst Prep, a team to watch out of District 10 with those two frontrunners, won the team race over Winchester Thurston, 44-58. W.T., the PA-A#1 team in the state was without some of its key team members. The injury bug hit them last season, so let's hope they are just resting before next week's district meet.
GIRLS: New Brighton's Alyssa Campbell has had a terrific season, and that was solidified on Wednesday as the junior won her first race of the season. After strong races at SRU and her conference champs, Campbell took the win at Freedom in 19:54 to beat out second place Jeanne Lauer of Shady Side and Maddie Salek of West Allegheny.
West Allegheny, led by Salek, took the team win with 62 points, 36 points better than second place Beaver Area.
