Girls' Preview

SPRINTS/HURDLES: Saturday will bring us the season debut of one of the state's most exciting athletes: Yasmin Brooks of Susquehanna Township (above). Brooks has signed with TCU and should be a force in a number of events this season. Brooks is entered in the 55 dash and the 55 hurdles.

The hurdles should be a great race with Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren, a returning state medalist, matching up against Brooks and Council Rock South's Elke Knecht. In the 200 meters, watch out for Coatesville sophomore Porsha Miles.

DISTANCE: Upper Darby's Dotleen Joseph is the top seed in the 3000 meters, but Boyertown's Madelyn Hunsberger will also be in the mix for the win there. In the mile, Lansdale Catholic's Kayla Connelly, fresh off a very strong XC season that included a fourth place finish in AA at states, is favored. Pennridge's Monika Brill will look to give Connelly a good race.

FIELD: Saturday will mark the debut of Madison Langley-Walker in an Upper Dublin uniform, one of our main storylines of the season. The two-time state champion in the long jump is entered in just the LJ for Saturday as she begins her quest for her third straight indoor state championship in the event. Brooks from Susquehanna Township is also entered in the long jump and should give Langley-Walker a good run.

In the triple jump, Perkiomen Valley's Warren is favored. She was fifth in the event at states. Her best compeittion will come from Council Rock South's Emily Yemm, a strong medal contender for the state meet in February. Warren is also entered in the long jump.

Neumann Goretti's Janese Lynch (above), who took second in the state to Cocalico's Emily Stauffer last year, returns to the circle for the first time this season in the shot put. Lynch is one of the favorites for state gold this season. She had a strong start to her season last year and she'll look for more of the same this year.
