Girls' Delco Championships
On Wednesday night, the girls of Delaware County took to Haverford for the Delco Champs.
Penn Wood's Terri Turner dropped a quick 57.62 for the win in the 400 meters. That's good enough for a PA#3, despite the tight turns of Haverford's track. Turner is the state leader in the 800 meters. Penn Wood also won the 4x200-meter relay (1:47.97) and the 4x400-meter relay (4:01.79).
Penn Wood's Janae Pitt won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.50. Bonner & Prendie's Alaina Johnson clocked a 9.55 in the 60 hurdle prelims. Upper Darby's Michelle Brown-Jones captured the 200 meters in a time of 26.63, just ahead of Chichester's Nierra Berry. Tatiyana Laylor of Penn Wood won the 60-meter dash in 7.89, ahead of second place Jones-Brown.
Eleanor Mancini of Cardinal O'Hara ran away with the 3000 meters, clocking a PA#7 10:45.69 for the win. In the 800 meters, O'Hara's Christine Mancini edged out Penn Wood's Kyra Carroll for the win. Mancini ran 2:20.59 (PA#3), while Carroll was right behind her in 2:20.62 (PA#4). Notre Dame's Jessica Schneider won the mile in a PA#5 5:13.84. O'Hara's Elizabeth Mancini was second in a PA#7 5:14.77.
O'Hara's Schola Eburuoh won the high jump, clearing 5-2.
