Central Valley Warrior Classic - Meet Preview
Some strong teams will head to Monaca for Central Valley's annual invitational and we should expect some strong performances. Here's a look at what we're watching for this weekend:
BOYS' PREVIEW
New Brighton's Anthony Milliner will hop back on the track and runway for the first time this season in an invitational setting. Milliner was the Class AA state champion in the triple jump this past spring and could be in line for a big senior season. He's favored in his primary event, the triple jump, but also the 200 meters and high jump on Saturday.
Ambridge Area's Isaac Elliott had a great indoor season and he's back for more this outdoor season. His season unfortunately ended at the indoor state meet with an injury, but if healthy, look for some fast times this spring from Elliott. He's the favorite in the 400 meters. Beaver Area's Darius Wise will be one to watch in the 100 meters, while Riverside's Jeremy Spicher and Calvin Wetzel will be the top seeds in the 300 meter hurdles.
Last we saw Taylor Allderdice's Noah Swaby, he was earning All-American honors in the pentathlon at New Balance Nationals Indoor. He'll return this weekend at Central Valley. He'll be the favorite in the 110 meter hurdles.
In the distance events, Taylor Allderice's Amadou Diallo is entered in both the 1600 and 3200 meters. In the 1600 meters, Ellwood City's Billy Lott should give a good challenge to Diallo.
Riverside's Lance Fisher is the top seed in the shot put, while Central Valley's Jacob White is favored in the discus. Hopewell Dantae Ranieri and Beaver Area's Daruis Wise will be locked in a good battle in the long jump.
GIRLS' PREVIEW
Riverside's Elsa Antal is the top seed in the 100 meter hurdles. She'll be in a good race with Beaver Area's Olivia Neeley in the 300 meter hurdles.
In the 1600 meters, New Brighton's Alyssa Campbell and Ambridge Area's Mica Hanish will look to race to some good early season times. Hanish will then come back later in the day for the 3200 meters. Our Lady of Sacred Heart's Tara Richardson is the favorite in the 800 meters.
