TSTCA Outdoor Championships - Meet Recap

GIRLS' RECAP

Headlining the meet was late entry Madison Wiltrout of Connellsville. Wiltrout, the national record holder in the javelin, threw a nation-leading 163-2 for the win on Saturday. That's also her best throw since her sophomore year. More on Wiltrout HERE.

Burrell's Nicole Scherer got off to a strong start to her season. Scherer won both the 100 meters in a pair of fast times. Scherer went 12.36 in the 100 meters and then later in the day, she won the 200 meters in 24.95.

Lizzie Weimer of Burrell had a great day in the throws. Weimer won the shot put (42-1.5) and the discus (134-11). She's now at PA#3 in the shot put and PA#5 in the discus.


Oakland Catholic's Lauren Finikiotis and Vincentian Academy's Marianne Abdalah battled it out in the distance events on Saturday. Finikiotis ran 5:03.98 to outlast Abdalah in the 1600 meters, but later in the meet Abdalah exacted revenge, winning the 3200 meters in 11:03.59.

Oakland Catholic's Jayla Ellis had a strong day in the hurdles. Ellis won the 100 meter hurdles in 15.26 and then she came back and won the 300 meter hurdles in 46.35. She also jumped 16-9.5 to win the long jump.


The Butler girls ran a PA#6 of 9:43.31 to win the 4x800 meter relay to start off the day at TSTCA. In the 400 meters, Butler's Alexis Leech ran 56.39 to beat out South Fayette's Rachel Helbling, who ran 57.31. Liz Simms, also of Butler, won the 800 meters in 2:18.20. To close out the meet, Butler ran 4:00.69 for the win. In the pole vault, Taylor Weaver of Butler cleared 11-8 to take the win.

South Fayette's Courtney Phoennik jumped 36-1 to win the triple jump.


BOYS' RECAP

Alex Trower of Pittsburgh Central Catholic claimed a pair of wins in the sprints. Trower first went 11.20 to win the 100 meters and then went 22.38 in the 200 meters.

Butler's Noah Beveridge ran a quick time in the 1600 meters. The junior went 4:22.92 to take the win over South Fayette's Sam Snodgrass, who ran 4:28.76. Mount Lebanon's Nate Everhardt won the 800 meters, going sub-2 with a 1:59.30. Baldwin's Casey Conboy was first in the 3200 meters in 9:41.10.

Upper Saint Clair's Harvey Kane put down a strong effort in the long jump. Kane, the indoor state champion, jumped 22-4 to edge out Ringgold's Brian Vandusen by a mere two inches. Gateway's Courtney Jackson went 43-8.75 to win the triple jump.

South Fayette's Sam Mastro continued his strong season in the throws. Mastro claimed wins in the shot put (51-3) and the discus (179-2). Elizabeth Forward's Daniel Jacobs tossed a nice PR of 177-8 in the javelin to take the win.

South Park's Gary Raymond ran 15.88 to win the 110 meter hurdles, while his teammate Sam Hartman went 40.40 to win the 300 meter hurdles.
