Team Breakdown: PIAA District 4 Boys

D4-AA Boys - Team Breakdown

Last fall, we saw a number of great battles between Milton Area and Lewisburg Area. The two team were the class of District 4 Class AA in 2016. Milton got the best of Lewisburg at the Shikellamy Boosters Classic and the District 4 Championships, but Lewisburg was nine points better at states.

As we look to this fall, Lewisburg will have some rebuilding to do with the graduation of its four top runners from states, while Milton is in the driver's seat to claim another district crown.

Milton returns its full varsity squad and brings motivated senior-laden crew to the forefront this fall. Tyler Leeser was the district runner-up and 11th place finisher at the state meet. He'll look to lead this squad yet again, which also features senior Seth Kendall (fourth at districts in '16) and Kellan Guinn-Bailey (ninth at districts in '16). If Milton can lower the gap between Leeser and the rest of the top five, Milton could be a major player on the state scene this year, as it looks to improve upon its 14th place finish in 2016.

Lewisburg will need to see some new runners emerge this fall without last year's leaders, Anthony Bach and Nick Alico. Don't count this squad out, though.

Like its girls' team, the boys from Loyalsock Township had a big breakout in 2016. The former Class A took fourth in D4-AA last year---two years after placing tenth in D4-A. Loyalsock brings back the reigning district champ in Quinn Serfass, who upset pre-race favorite Isaac Davis of Jersey Shore last year. Serfass took tenth at states. Loyalsock also returns all but one from that 2016 team, including another state qualifier Ryan Sullivan, so it should be ready to make another jump (possibly to Hershey) in 2017.

Danville Area was third at districts last fall, just missing states. It loses state qualifier Matthew Leiby to graduation, but returns five young runners ready to make an impact this year. Made up of mostly sophomores and juniors, Danville is worth keeping an eye on this fall for that second state qualifying spot.

Jersey Shore Area, Warrior Run, and Mifflinburg are teams that will look to put themselves in the mix this fall as well in what should be an exciting battle to watch in District 4.
