Individuals Breakdown: District 2 Boys

D2-AA Boys - Individuals Breakdown

We saw a number of great battles between North Pocono's David Haines and Dallas's Jack Zardecki last season. But Haines has since graduated, leaving the district in the hands of the talented Zardecki, who will lead one of the state's top teams.

Zardecki was second to Haines last fall and seventh at states. On the track, he ran 9:22 in the 3,200 meters---a sign that he just keeps improving. He'll put those talents to the test as one of the top returners in AA this season, as he hopes for another high states finish and team state title.

The one who could challenge him is Western Wayne's Jacob Pasake. The rising senior was third at districts last fall and 12th in the state. He emerged late in the season and should be on the radar this time around. Look for him to make an even greater impact this fall.

Dallas has a fleet of returnees after Zardecki that will be heavily relied on if the team wants to win its third straight AA state title. That group includes Josh Wyandt, Mitchell Rome, Adam Borton, Steven Postupak, and Josh Jarden. It seemed like every week a different runner from that pack stepped up, so that tells us any of them could be in the mix for a top 25 spot at the state meet in November.

Holy Redeemer returns a pair of strong rising juniors. While it loses Aaron Hoda, the Royals bring back Bryce Zapusek and Lucas Volpetti, who placed in the top ten of the district last year. Zapusek was 27th at states, just missing a medal. Berwick's Jerrod Waller (29th at states) and Mitchell Martin (43rd at states) also return and should be solid this season.
