The girls 800m finals at the 2018 PTFCA Indoor State Championship came down to the last lap. Maddie Salek from West Allegheny (PA) led almost the entire race, but right at the start of the bell lap the race got interesting.
Gabrielle Wilkinson from Friends' Central (PA) made a big move around the curve and down the backstretch to take the lead. Then into the final curve, Esther Seeland of State College Area High School (PA) put in a big push to take the win. Seeland ran a new US No. 2 time of 2:08.71 while Wilkinson, who took second, dropped a new US No. 4 time of 2:09.02. Salek finished in third with a new US No. 9 mark of 2:12.21.
