Villa Joseph Marie won its third straight District 1 Class AA title last season, and with a nice set of returners will be going for four straight at Lehigh. VJM's full top five is back this season. They'll be led by Katie Irelan, who has two District 1 titles to her name before a second place finish a year ago. Brianna Kling was third last season and, together with Irelan, will make a strong 1-2 punch. Camila Drobac, Lily Dineen, and Alyssa Austin make up the rest of this team's top five, which will be worth watching for in 2018.
It didn't come easy for VJM last season, though. Fellow "Villa" -- Villa Maria Academy -- took second by a single point. After last year's disappointment, look for Villa Maria to come back hungry this fall to compete again for that one state qualifying spot. Three varsity girls are back for Villa Maria, which also happens to be their top three from a year ago. Rising seniors Sarah Raubenheimer and Hope Brown were both state qualifiers last year will look to go back to Hershey, but this time with the full team.
Nazareth Academy (third at districts in '17) and Octorara (fourth at districts in '17) will look for some breakthrough performers to contend with the favorites for the top spot this fall.
