2023 NY Girls XC Preview: NYSAIS

NYSAIS Preview

In 2022, Convent of the Sacred Heart had a large buffer on the smaller field of teams in the Independent Schools Championship. With under a 2-minute compression, they scored 53 points, thirty points under the next best team. Always a sign of good fortune, they managed to do so with four of their top five as underclassmen, signaling good things to come in 2023. However, remove those seniors, and their compression jumps up to four minutes, providing opportunity for another team to come in for the crown.

One thing that won't change will be the presence of Tess O'Donoghue (Marymount), the reigning Champion. She's back for a senior year at VCP, and has a healthy gap on the returning athletes out the gate. But that's not to say there isn't competition. Sophomore Natalie Murphy (Marymount) had a big jump on the track, bringing her 1500m PR down to 4:43.67. Likewise, Junior Isabella Leyton (Poly Prep) dropped her 3000m best down to 10:03.64. Those are all good indications that we might have a more competitive race at the front for the AIS Title.
