\"I told the girls that if Lance Armstrong could win after being on the cover of Sports Illustrated, then we could handle being ranked #9 in the Northeast US.\" And apparently the talk Parkland head coach Loretta Dodson had with her girls worked. They held off an upfront charge by improving Chambersburg to win a dry, cool and largest-ever Steel City Invitational. In the boys race, Council Rock North moved up to NE#4 on 10/1, but without their #3 and #6 runners, they were vulnerable. Ready to pounce was the home team.

The Steel City Invitational continues to be one of the premier invitationals of the PA cross country season. This year, 57 girls teams and 58 boys teams will toe the line and challenge each other and the HILL, before descending to a finish that never seems to end. Top PA teams are entered, as usual, even with a few running at the Great American XC Festival in North Carolina. Fresh off their big win in Carlisle will be what many consider the best girls team in the state, Parkland. They\'ll be challenged by Chambersburg, Cardinal O\'Hara, Gwynedd Mercy, West Chester Henderson, and West Chester East. In the boys race, it\'ll be NE#5 Council Rock North fending off challenges from teams like Cardinal O\'Hara, Parkland, Henderson, and host Coatesville.
