IAAF World Juniors in China, Leach 2nd in 400H, anchors JR 4x400... but Fritz is NH...



Nicole Leach anchors USA to 2006 world-leading Juniors 4x400 Gold


To close out the six-day meet on Sunday 8/20, Nicole Leach (West Catholic/UCLA), anchored the 4x400 to a World Juniors Leading 3:29.01 in the 4x400. She had not run on the qualifying squad that went 3:34.83 on Day Five (8/9).

On Day Three (8/17) Nicole Leach (West Catholic/UCLA) takes 2nd in the 400 Hurdles in 55.55, .20 off of her PR. Jamaica's Kaliese Spencer was 1st in 55.11. On Day One, Ryan Fritz (Octorara/Penn State) did not advance to the Finals in the High Jump.

Good news-bad news for PA. The good news from Day One (8/15) was that Nicole Leach, 2005 grad of West Catholic and a frosh at UCLA, advanced from the prelims of the 400 Hurdles. She followed that up on Day Two (8/16) with a 56.10 in the Semis, the fastest time of the two heats. In the Prelims, Leach had won her heat in 57.27, 2nd best of the four heats and 30 competitors.

The bad news was that Ryan Fritz, 2005 Octorara grad and Penn State frosh, did not advance to the finals of the High Jump held on Day One. Fritz came in at 6-06.75 and missed on his three attempts.
