1/20 INDOOR WEEK #8 SUMMARY:
On Wednesday at the TSTCA SHOT PUT COMPETITION, North Allegheny teammates Garrett Larkin and Jade Hambrick took the wins. On Thursday at the SPARTAN FIELD & TRACK SHOT PUT INVITATIONAL at Thomas Jefferson HS, Greensburg Salem's Corrine Free threw 37-09.50 for the win. For the boys, it was CJ Clegg of Hemfield with a toss of 47-06. On Friday at the DVGTCA INDOOR MEET #6, Penncrest's Karen Shump improved her US#1 mark in the Shot Put to 49-04.25, a meet record. With the addition of the DMR to the state events this indoor season for the first time, teams are going after it with a vengeance. Eleven squads were under 13 minutes on the flat track at Lehigh, led by a PA#2 by West Chester Henderson. Upper Darby's Bintou Dibba improved to PA#4 with a long jump. At week #4, the final qualifier before the semis of the COLGATE WOMEN'S GAMES Engineering & Science's Syeeda Gee won two events, the 800 in 2:20.8 and the 1500 in 4:47.0. Teammate Kasia Taylor was 2nd in the 1500 at 4:54.3. On Saturday at the NEW BALANCE GAMES in New York, Easton's Chanelle Price takes 2nd in the girls elite mile at the New Balance Games in NY, to Danielle Tauro's 4:46.13, running a 4:50.65! That is the fastest since a 4:52.68 by St. Hubert's Amy Kelly at the same meet in 2004. Click here to watch the video of the race at the Armory Track.com site The boys notched a win when Bradford won the 4x800 in a PA#1. The St. Basil girls took 3rd in a PA#1 mark as well. Swenson's girls took over the top PA spot in the 4x200, with Methacton, West Catholic, Chester, O'Hara, Girls' High, and four more PA teams within one to five seconds. Methacton also became the 2nd squad under 4 in the 4x400 for 2nd at the meet. The Chester girls were 2nd in the 1600 sprint medley relay and are now PA#1. In other PA boys' action. O'Hara took 2nd in the 4x200 in a PA#1. There was a top field mark from Coatesville's Kaleena Gray in the shot put. Early Saturday morning, Clayton NC sr Johnny Dutch zips 7.07 to break Deworski Odom's (Overbrook HS) 1995 55H mark of 7.08. They also took 7th in the 4x800. The Nazareth Academy girls were busy in four events, with their best showing in the DMR. On Saturday, Downingtown West's Christen Arnold took over PA#2 in the long jump. Downingtown West ran a PA#3 mark in the 4x400. Meghan Lutz of Nazareth Academy moved into PA#7 in the 3000. At the LAVINO RELAYS in New Jersey at the Lawrenceville School, Glen Mills' Semaj Spencer leapt 46-11 in the triple jump and teammate Darren Johnson went 45-01.50. Spencer also went 21-03.25 as part of the winning long jump relay; contributed to the winning high jump relay combo of 12-06, and ran a leg on the winning 4x200. At the TFCAGP D2 INDOOR MEET #7 at Widener, Wissahickon set a track record in the DMR with a 10:49.8. Penn Charter set a meet record in the 4x176 with their 1:16.2. At the POLE VAULT SUMMIT in Reno, Nevada, Abby Schaffer of Easton upped her PA#1 mark with one-inch PR. Tony Shirk of Phoenixville moved into a tie for PA#3 with a PR. At the KENT STATE HS OPEN #1, McDowell's Brice Myers took over PA#1 in the 55 hurdles with his 7.57. Teammate Ajla Glavasevic was 1st in the girls race. Glavasevic also took 2nd in the shot put, throwing 37-06.50. Jade Hambrick, North Allegheny, won with her toss of 39-03.75. In the pole vault, Zach Mevreden of Pine Richland cleared 14-05.25. Alexandra Acker of McDowell cleared 11-05.75. At the TFCAGP D1 INDOOR MEET #7 @ Glen Mills Schools, Boyertown's Jason Weller tuned up for his upcoming Millrose Games mile with an open PR 1:59.9 800. Teammate Mark Dennis dipped under 9 again in the 3000. On Sunday at the MARIETTA COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL MET #2 in Marietta, OH, Scott VanKooten, Pittsburgh Central Catholic, posted a PA#2 9:32.5 in the 3200. The Penn Hills girls won the 4x200 and the 4x400.

Penncrest's Karen Shump improved her US#1 mark in the Shot Put to 49-04.25, a meet record. The PTFCA added the DMR to the state events this indoor season for the first time and teams are obviously going after it with a vengeance. Eleven squads were under 13 minutes on the flat track at Lehigh, led by a PA#2 12:31.4 by West Chester Henderson. Pennridge was just over six seconds back. Germantown Academy's Caitlin DeFusco won the 60 in 7.8 seconds, and the 200 in a time of 26.2. Upper Darby's Bintou Dibba improved to PA#4 with a long jump of 17-04. Ceci Davis-Haye, Germantown Friends, ran 10:44.3 to take the 3000.
1/19-20 Pole Vault Summit @ Reno, NV

At the annual festival of the poles in Nevada, Abby Schaffer of Easton upped her PA#1 mark to 12-04, and a PR by one inch. North Penn'sSteph McDougal and Beki Finn of Liberty, each cleared 11-08. Tony Shirk of Phoenixville moved into a tie for PA#3 with a vault of 14-06.

Great Valley's boys won the small school DMR in 10:38.56 on Friday. They also took 7th in the 4x800. The Nazareth Academy girls were busy in four events, with their best showing a 13:22.11 in the DMR. Kutztown's girls ran 1:54.97 in the 4x200. On Saturday, Downingtown West's Christen Arnold took over PA#2 in the long jump, going 17-09.50. Downingtown West ran 4:04.31, now PA#3 in the 4x400. Meghan Lutz of Nazareth Academy moved into PA#7 in the 3000 with her 10:38.05.

Splits include Nick Crits with a 3:11.1 1200, Kevin Bray wiht a 54.4 400, Teddy Miller at 2:06.2 in the 800 and Scott Kern with a 4:37.9 mile. Easton's Chanelle Price captured 2nd in the girls elite mile at the New Balance Games in NY, to Danielle Tauro's 4:46.13, running a 4:50.65! That is the fastest since a 4:52.68 by St. Hubert's Amy Kelly at the same meet in 2004. That year, Frances Koons, Allentown Central Catholic, won the indoor title in 4:53.18. It was her junior year. The St. Basil girls took 3rd in a PA#1 9:32.26, with Radnor 5th and Strath Haven 6th. Swenson's girls took over the top PA spot in the 4x200, going 1:44.62, with Methacton, West Catholic, Chester, O'Hara, Girls' High, and four more PA teams within one to five seconds. Methacton also became the 2nd squad under 4 in the 4x400, going 3:59.10 for 2nd at the meet. Strath Haven's girls went 36.79 for 5th in the shuttle hurdle relay. The Chester girls were 2nd in the 1600 sprint medley relay, going 4:03.92, now PA#1. In other PA boys' action. O'Hara took 2nd in the 4x200 in a PA#1 1:30.53. Top field marks came from Coatesville's Kaleena Gray who threw 43-02.75 in the shot put. Coatesville took 2nd overall in the shot put relay and 4th in the long jump relay. Their boys were 4th in the triple jump relay, where PA girls were 3rd (Council Rock North) and 4th (Girls' High). Council Rock North's girls were 2nd in the pole vault relay. Conestoga's girls were 4th in the hgh jump relay.

McDowell's Brice Myers took over PA#1 in the 55 hurdles with his 7.57. Teammate Ajla Glavasevic was 1st in the girls race. Glavasevic also took 2nd in the shot put, throwing 37-06.50. Jade Hambrick, North Allegheny, won with her toss of 39-03.75. In the pole vault, Zach Mevreden of Pine Richland cleared 14-05.25 for the boys win. Alexandra Acker of McDowell cleared 11-05.75. In the 800, Chris Wolfe of Baldwin dipped below 2 minutes, going 1:59.25. And Diana Filtz, Penn Trafford, won the 3200 in 11:31.76 and was 2nd in the 1600. And Wunmi Fapahunda of Baldwin long-jumped 17' 1.5".

In winning the triple jump relay, two Glen Mills jumpers got off great efforts. Semaj Spencer leapt 46-11' to improve his PA#1 ranking, while teammate Darren Johnson went 45-01.50 to move into PA#2. Spencer also teamed with Reuben Armes to take the long jump relay at a combined 42-03.25, and with Timothy Harvey to take the high jump relay at a combined 12-06. Spencer's long jump was 21-03.25. He also ran a leg on the winning 4x200 of 1:32.8. Glen Mills moved into PA#2 in the 4x400 with a 3:28.1. The Archbishop Ryan girls took home a 4th in the long jump relay, and a 5th in the triple jump relay.
