Max Adams of Hempfield (7) rebounded very nicely from his shot put performance to earn a silver medal in the discus with a throw of 187-6! Courtney McCartney of Selinsgrove also earned silver, throwing 47-4.50 in the shot put to become an All American! Madeleine Davidson of North Allegheny finished 3rd in the mile run championship with a time of 4:47.07 to become an All American! Abby Jones of Franklin also earned a 3rd place finish, clearing 5-7.75 to become a high jump All American! Hempfield (7) girls finished 6th in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 47.02 to add All American certificates to their state championship.
Cardinal O’Hara boys were hard done by finishing 7th in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:05.47, just two seconds off the championship winning time of 10:03.02. Kailyn Clancy of California Area was 7th in the shot put with a throw of 44-9. Unionville girls ran 12:32.44 to finish 8th in the distance medley relay. Sam Ritz of Germantown Academy ran 4:12.54 to finish 13th in the mile run. Sarah Walker of Germantown Academy ran 2:09.12 to finish 9th in the 800 meter run. Maddie Holmberg of Hempfield (7) jumped 19-2.50 to finish 8th in the long jump.
DAY TWO (SATURDAY):
Nick Solfanelli of Scranton Prep (Photo by Jeff Sides) earned PA’s highest finish at the New Balance Outdoor National meet through two days. The junior earned a runner up finish in the championship javelin with a lifetime best of 214-5, good for US#5!
Great Valley girls finished 5th in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:00.66 to earn All American honors in a race where the top six all ran 9:00 or faster! Steph Sievers of Daniel Boone became PA’s 1st All American at the outdoor national championships with a 6th place finish in the javelin. The junior threw 137-4 to make the medal stand. Kennedy Shank of Northern cleared 11-5.75 to finish 8th in the girls pole vault. Max Adams of Hempfield (7) threw 59-5 to finish 10th in the shot put.
In the Heptathlon, Methacton juniors Jenny Martin was 9th with 4333 points, and Nicolette Serratore was 14th with 3834 points. There best performances were:
DAY ONE (FRIDAY): In the freshmen 2 mile, Germantown Friends Nick Dahl set a new meet record by a 12 second margin with a winning time of 9:19.01! He followed that up with a 2nd place finish in the freshmen mile with a time of 4:25.03. Mike Riddick of Downingtown West finished 6th in the freshmen 100 meter dash with a time of 11.40. Ashley Williams of Easton ran 14.79 to finish 6th in the Emerging Elite 100 meter hurdles. Colin Abert of Easton ran 4:18.03 to finish 12th in the Emerging Elite mile. Brandon Standback of Bishop McDevitt jumped 45-9.75 to finish 3rd in the Emerging Elite triple jump.
Stephen Minto of Hershey cleared 14-8.25 to finish 6th in the Emerging Elite pole vault Scott Schlegel of Emmaus cleared 6-3.25 to finish tied for 4th in the high jump. Alexandra Stevenson of Bethel Park finished 2nd in the Emerging Elite discus with a throw of 129-2. Nicholas Hassler of Parkland threw 163-9 to finish 2nd in the javelin. Kaitlyn Toman of Salisbury cleared 12-3.50 to finish 2nd in the Emerging Elite pole vault. Grace Becker of Central Bucks East cleared 5-5.75 to finish 5th in the Emerging Elite high jump.
Representing PA in the Dream Mile were the AA and AAA 1600 state champions, Kennedy Weisner of Elk County Catholic and Brianna Schwartz of Shaler Area. Weisner and Schwartz would finish 6th and 7th respectively in the Dream Mile. Weisner ran 4:46.62 while Schwartz ran 4:50.16.
Lakeview graduate Fawn Miller of the University of Florida was crowned the NCAA Outdoor Champion in the women’s javelin. The 2009 state champion in the javelin won the highest honor at the collegiate level with a winning throw of 190-8, over 8 feet better than the field. Laura Loht, a graduate of Mifflin County now competing for Penn State, finished 5th with a throw of 178-6, which is a new Penn State school record. Jessie Merckle, a graduate of Fort Cherry, finished 12th for Wake Forest with a throw of 160-3. Penn Wood graduate Darrell Hill of Penn State finished 15th in the shot put with a mark of 62-9.50. Cheltenham graduate Brittney Howell of Penn State jumped 20-0.25 to finish 20th in the long jump. Conestoga Valley graduate Robert Cardina of Penn State was 7th after the first day of the decathalon with a score of 4087 points.
In track semifinals, Leah Nugent of Kentucky advanced to the finals of the 400 meter hurdles. The Abington graduate and 300 meter hurdles state meet record holder ran 57.15 to finish 7th in qualifying. West Chester Henderson grad Luke Lefebure of Stanford advanced to the finals of the 800 meter run with the 4th fastest qualifying time of 1:48.46. Ce’aira Brown of Overbrook ran the 8th fastest 800 meter time, but missed the finals. The Overbrook grad ran 2:05.01, but finished 3rd in her heat and failed to advance on time. Springside alum Taylor Ellis-Watson of Arkansas finished 13th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.48. Cierra White of Texas Tech ran 11.38 in the 100 meter dash, good for a 17th place finish for the Engineering and Science grad and state champ. Pennridge alum Tori Gerlach of Penn State ran 10:51.17 in the 3000 meter steeplechase semifinals.
DAY 2
Robert Cardina finished the decathlon with an 8th place finish! The Penn State athlete and the Conestoga Valley graduate scored 7666 points to secure All American honors! Elaina Balouris of William and Mary finished 5th in the 10000 meter run with a time of 32:46.57. That performance secured an All American certificate for the Hampton graduate. North Hills graduate Margo Malone, running for Syracuse, ran 34:03.08 to finish 20th.
In track semifinals, Cierra White rebounded from her 100 meter performance to qualify for the finals of the 200 meter dash. The Engineering and Science alum and Texas Tech junior ran 23.01 to earn the 4th best time in the semifinals. Homer Center graduate and Villanova sophomore Angel Piccirillo snagged a spot in the 1500 meter final, running 4:21.47 to advance. Germantown Friends alum Jake Waterman finished 19th in the 3000 meter steeplechase for Purdue with a time of 8:57.13. Brittney Howell of Penn State sits in 3rd place after day 1 of the women's heptathlon. The Cheltenham alum scored 3474 points.
DAY 3
Leah Nugent of Kentucky and formerly of Abington finished 7th in the 400 meter hurdle finals with a time of 58.25 to earn her first All American certificate! West Chester Henderson grad Luke Lefebure of Stanford finished 6th in the 800 meter final with an All American performance of 1:47.46! Matt Fischer of Penn State and formerly of Unionville ran 15:05.99 in the 5000 meter final.
DAY 4
Homer Center alum Angel Piccirillo of Homer Center ran 4:27.66 to finish 12th in the 1500 meter final. Cierra White of Texas Tech, formerly of Engineering and Science, ran 23.33 to finish 8th in the 200 meter dash and earn All American honors. Imani Brown, formerly of Reading and now representing Alabama finished 20th in the triple jump with a mark of 51-0.75.
Representing PA in the 2-mile was AAA 1600 state champion Brianna Schwartz of Shaler Area, who ran a PA#2 All Time 3200 earlier this year at the Baldwin Invitational, going 10:10.03. On Saturday in a race that saw a national PLUS a sophomore class record, she finished 9th in 10:31.48.
Cardinal O'Hara boys extended their season and won the 4x800 meter relay title with a PA#6 time of 7:47.93! Jack Nolen (1:59.3), Kevin James (1:56.9), Nick Smart (1:56.1) and Jim Belfatto (1:55.2) were the team that brought home the gold!
Taylor Ellis-Watson of Arkansas and formerly of Springside finished 7th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.78! Nia Ali, a graduate of West Catholic, finished 8th in the 100 meter hurdles in 13.16. Abington grad Leah Nugent of Kentucky finished 14th in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:00.68. Sam Ellison of Villanova, formerly of Upper Dublin, ran 1:52.24 to finish 15th in the 800 meter run. Lakeview graduate Fawn Miller of Florida threw 187-7 to finish 6th in the javelin. Tori Pattera, formerly of Elizabeth Forward, now representing Miami (OH) finished 10th in the javelin (168-5), while Mifflin County grad Laura Loht was 12th (163-8).

Sarah Walker of Germantown Friends advanced to the finals of the 800 meter run at historic Hayward Field! The rising junior ran 2:07.72 to finish 4th in the prelim round. In the finals, she ran 2:09.58 to finish 7th. Haverford graduate and Johns Hopkins runner Tess Meehan finished 7th in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:10.74. Tamaqua graduate Christine Streisel of Duke finished 5th in the javelin with a throw of 147-6. Finishing right behind her was Mercersburg graduate Sarah Firestone of Nebraska, who threw 147-1 to finish 6th. Luke Lewis of Hickory threw 4-3.25 to finish 15th in the shot put. Uniontown Area graduate Julie Friend of California University of PA finished 3rd in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:36.55.
Cyre Virgo of Fleetwood Area finished 4th in the high jump with a clearance of 5-8.75. Jhet Janis of Cocalico finished 5th in the javelin with a throw of 204-9. 2013 Chambersburg graduate Marshay Ryan of Auburn finished 2nd in the triple jump with a mark of 43-3. She will represent the USA in the upcoming World Youth championships later this month! 2013 Lasalle graduate Tom Coyle of Lasalle finished 2nd in the prelims of the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:52.39. In the finals, Coyle ran 3:52.94 to finish 4th! Also contesting a 1500 meter final is 2013 Central graduate Lucy Van Kluenen. The Brown rising sophomore ran 4:41.20 to advance to the finals, and 4:38.86 to finish 9th in the finals.
On day 3, John Lewis of Cheltenham ran a lifetime best 1:51.25 to win the 800 meter run by a huge 6 second margin! Lewis also added a 400 meter dash victory in 47.96! Garbielle Wilkinson, who will be representing Friends Central next season, ran a meet record 2:12.83 to win the girls 800 meter run! Dasia Pressley of Neshaminy ran 12.22 to win the 100 meter dash. Christian Brissett of Cheltenham ran 10.78 to win the 100 meter dash. Sister Chanel ran 12.46 to win the 15-16 age group.
On day 2, Sydni Stovall of Springfield Montco ran a meet record 7:28.56 to win the 2000 meter steeplechase! Shannon Taub of Council Rock South cleared 5-5 to win the high jump.
On day 1, Allison Taub of Council Rock South took home 2 gold medals in the age 17-18 field events on Friday, winning the shot put (34-11.50) and the discus (84-2), and she also finished 2nd in the javelin (103-5). Holly Sullivan of Owen J Roberts ran 1:02.23 to win the 400 meter hurdles. Charles Bowman Jr of Central Dauphin East won the boys 400 meter hurdles in 55.08 to wrap up the first day of action.
