DAY FIVE (SUN)
Chanelle Price earned her shot in the finals of the Women's 800 in the senior race at the USATF T&F Champs. She led through the 400 in 57.4, but at the 450, the older runners Johnson, Clark and Schmidt took charge. Price fought back, and was in the top four past the 600 mark. She would finish 7th in a PR of 2:02.38. In the 400 Hurdles, West Catholic grad Nicole Leach made the A standard and finished 3rd in 54.49, while Harrisburg grad Dominique Darden was 7th in 57.29. Norristown grad Michael Whitehead took 9th in the Men's triple jump, leaping 51-11.25.

Harrisburg HS, Miami U. grad Dominique Darden also advanced, running 56.20 in the same heat. Norristown grad Courtney Clark did not advance from the semis. In the junior women's 400 finals, South Carolina-bound Breehana Jacobs, a graduate of Laurel Highlands, captured 3rd, running 53.41. Haverford Township grad Shayne Culpepper was never in the race, finishing 11th in the 1500m finals in 4:22.35. Central Dauphin grad Ryan Whiting took 15th in the shot put with a throw of 60-09.50.

DAYS ONE & TWO (WED-THUR)

Running against the senior women for the first time in her young career, Easton junior Chanelle Price faced the pressure and the competition to advance to the semi-finals of the 800 meter run. Her time of 2:05.27 took 4th in her heat. The top three in each heat advanced, and Price advanced on time. According to her coach, Ken Abney of the United Stars, price was leading going through at 550 meters, after splitting 61 at the quarter. "That's when the professionals start to race, and they did," Abney said. Price was passed by Hazel Clark and two other runners, but held on and was closing at the end to advance comfortably. Price's 600 split was 1:33. Abney says you can tell an athlete what to expect in a race, but that until they experience it, it doesn't mean as much. "She grew up a lot today," Abney said. "She knows what she has to do tomorrow to make Sunday's finals."
And Warwick HS grad Georganne Way also advanced, running 2:05.99.

After all seven events of the Junior Women's Heptathlon, Methacton junior Ryann Krais finished 2nd to USC freshman Shana Woods, setting the all-time prep junior class record in the process with 5377 points - #4 all-time. According to Dyestat's Steve Underwood, Krais had to run a 2:17.00 800 – the final event – to capture the record, and recorded a 2:16.96.
Following day two, Krais told Underwood that while her javelin was not her best, it was better than she had been doing in practice. The lack of work also hurt her long jump. But overall, Krais was pleased. "I knew from the start I wasn't going to be close to Shana, so getting the junior class record was one of my goals going into the meet." As for her Czech Republic teammate Chanelle Price, Krais is impressed, especially after a PR in the closing 800. "I don't know how Chanelle does it. The first lap (69) wasn't as fast as I wanted it to be, so I picked it up."
Following the day one competition, Krais told Underwood that she simply is aiming for more PRs after her 24.47 200m to close out day one so she could stay as close as possible to Shana Woods, the leader. “The 100H went well. That’s been a good event for me recently and I was confident going into that one. I had good form when I jumped 5-5.25, but couldn’t do it again. I wasn’t snapping quick enough. My first two shot puts were pretty bad; I was just happy to get in a fairly good one. It was the same as I threw here last year. Then the 200 was a PR, so that was good.”
