Red Devils return to the summit after 5 year absence
Vincentian Academy’s Marianne Abdalah and the Central Cambria Red Devils had something to prove in the Class A girls’ championship race.
And it was mission accomplished for both in Saturday’s opening race on the Parkview Course as Abdalah stormed to her second harrier title in two tries and Randy Wilson’s squad started strong and wrapped up a perfect season in one of the tightest team races of the day.
“I knew these girls had it in them to win,” Wilson said of his 2014 squad, which led the 19-team field with 72 points. “They’re so young, that’s four sophomores and a freshman (in the top 5). I thought they could do it. I knew Holy Cross and Elk Lake were tough. They have been there all year. These girls have been running with a target on their back so it’s been tough.”
