Chanel Brissett's dream 2016 season came to a close Friday evening in Eugene, Oregon at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
The Cheltenham rising senior clocked a 13.37 in the pouring rain in the semi-finals of the 100-meter hurdles. That was good enough for fifth in the third of three heats, but it didn't advance her to the finals, which were held later in the evening.
On Thursday, Brissett qualified for the semis by running 12.95, which tied the Pennsylvania state record and put her at #3 on the all-time national high school list. Heat 3 results:
It has been a remarkable 2016 for Brissett, who didn't compete in the hurdles much before her junior year. Nevertheless, she has quickly become one of the best to ever compete in the event at the high school level.
Indoors, Brissett broke the PA state record in the 60-meter hurdles, winning the state title in a time of 8.23. In the spring, Brissett broke the PIAA meet record to win the state championship in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.19. She went on to win the event at New Balance Nationals Outdoor in a time of 13.01.
Brissett is only 16 years old and still has her senior year at Cheltenham remaining.
