Carlisle's Noah Affolder made the most of his trip to Texas on Friday. Affolder took third overall in a loaded field at the Texas Distance Festival, running a time of 14:18.26.
Affolder led through some of the early parts of the race, and got himself in a breakaway pack of three runners along with California's Cooper Teare and North Carolina's Connor Lane a little after the midway point. Teare pulled away in the closing laps to take the win in 14:13.26. Lane was second in 14:17.89 and then Affolder came across.
The race included some of the best high schooler distance runners in the country. In addition to Teare and Lane, Nebraska's Seth Hirsch (fourth in 14:25.03), Texas's Alex Maier (fifth in 14:25.60), and the Foot Locker national champion from Texas, Reed Brown (ninth in 14:37.51). Ten boys went under 15 minutes in the race.
