Yep, the defending state champs in the 4x200 from Central Bucks East (Cara Hughes, Lauren Eagan, Ali Gillen, Shannon Daniels) got off on the right foot with one new member of the foursome, going 1:45.9. 3rd leg Gillen also won the triple jump with a leap of 35-10, while anchor Daniels went 1702 to take the long jump. Conestoga had the fastest 4x800 indoor last year, and started out with a win in 9:49.2. And watch for special things from Swenson's Shanae Bailey, who cruised to a 25.6 win in the 200.
Darwin Gibbons, Caravel, won the vault with a jump of 14-00. Teammate Matt Pafford was 2nd in 13-6. Ben Montgomery, JP McCaskey, won the 55 dash in 6.75 and Norristown's Tyler Smith was 2nd in 6.81. Manny Morris, Octorara, won the 55 hurdles in 7.93. Taylor Schmalhoffer, McCaskey, was 2nd in 8.05. Norristown's Michael Goode won the long jump in 20-03.50 and the triple jump in 39-05.50.
Mandissa Marshall, Crestwood, won the vault with a leap of 11-6. Fallon Heddings, Bloomsburg, won the triple jump with a leap of 35-9. She also won the long jump with a leap of 15-08. Ephrata's Katie Ream won the high jump with a mark of 5-2. Iyonna Dixon, Octorara, won the 55 dash in 7.39 and Yahnae Weldon, Norristown, won the 55 hurdles in 8.84. Dixon also won the 200 in 27.06.
Teams from West Mifflin and Laurel Highlands made the trip to West Virginia. West Mifflin's Ryan Jones, doubled individually with a 7.55 in the 60 meter dash and a 24.29 in the 200.
Wesley Lavong, a Methacton senior, took the shot with a put of 58'10", a PR indoor or out. Younger brother Carlton leapt 47'7.5" to win the triple jump, his best-ever indoor, and 2nd best all-time. Upper Dublin opened up their indoor season with a solid DMR, posting a winning time of 10:43.68. Pennridge finished 2nd in 11:06.70. North Penn's Sean Gentry won the high jump with a height of 6'4". Julius Brewington, Upper Darby, won the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.33. Tim Eversole, Pennridge, won the 60 hurdles in 9.14 (9.01 prelim time). Norristown won the 800 meter relay in 1:36.61. Chester won the 1600 relay in 3:39.85. And Upper Dublin took the DMR in 10:43.68.
Getting his PTFCA Indoor State Meet qualifier out of the way, and tuning up for his upcoming visit to the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships, Lower Merion senior Ben Furcht blazed alone to an 8:56.0 3000 win at Lehigh University. The Episcopal Academy 4x200 was quick out of the blocks with their 1:32.4.
North Allegheny, competing as the Wexford Flats XC Club, finished in 12th position out of 22 teams. Ryan Gil finished first for the squad with a 78th place time of 16:16.1. Chase Broussard finished 94th with a time of 16:25.0. Patrick Morgan was 98th in 16:26.9. Will Appman finished 112th in 16:33.3. Eric Balaban was 120th in 16:36.7. In case you didn't already to the math, that equates to a 20.6 second team compression.
Individually, Brad Miles finished in 54th position with a time of 16:05.8. Lindsey Graybill finished 86th in the girls race with a time of 19:04.3.
Emmaus juniors Amanda, Brianna and Christina Faust made the trip and came away with top 10 finishes in the Young Girls class. Amanda ran 19:29.35 for 4th; Brianna was 6th in 19:45.79; and Christina was 10th in 20:09.23. Parkland senior Matt Gilette took 4th in the Young Boys class in 16:35.89. And Whitehall sophomore Matt Kacyon was 5th in the Intermediate Boys with his 17:00.60.
