The sprints don't disappoint
The sprinting star of the afternoon was Romarr Mayne, Reading, who powered his way to a new Carnival record in the 60 meter dash with a PA #2 time of 6.93. The time bests the previous record of 6.94 set by a fellow Reading runner, Latir Foster, back in 2001. Aaron Nadolsky, Altoona, won a thrilling 400 meter dash with a time of 50.70. Dwayne Hyman, Engineering and Science, finished a close 2nd with a time of 50.94. Dareem David, William Penn, won the 200 meter dash with a PA #6 time of 22.83. Wallace Spencer, Malvern Prep, won the 60 hurdles with a PA #3 time of 8.25.
Chester's Rayianna Johnson sprinted her way to victory with a time of 25.22 in the 200 meter dash and also won the 60 meter dash with a PA #1/US #10 time of 7.67. Abby Reid, Strath Haven, ran a time of 59.67 to win the 400 meter dash. Leah Nugent, Abington, won the 60 hurdles with a PA # 1/US #10 time of 8.95.
Field events boast a record and several close calls
Tory Worthen, Council Rock South, set a new Carnival record in the pole vault with a high-flying PA #1 mark of 12-06.50. Her performance erased the old mark by 1/2 inch, a 12-06 shared by Stephanie McDougal and Abby Schaffer. Brittany Howell, Cheltenham, won the long jump with a PA #2 leap of 18-02.75. Jen Durham, Central Bucks West, won the shot put with a heave of 37-04.00. Taylor Morgan, Upper Dublin, won the high jump with a PA #3 height of 5-06, while Kristin Smith, Souderton, finished 2nd with the same height.
Sean Gentry, North Penn, left an impressive performance in the pits with a winning PA #2 long jump mark of 22-11.50 and a winning high jump leap of 6-08, which ties Kyriq's PA #1 jump. The high jump was crowded at the top with Kyriq Williams, Phoenixville, 2nd with a mark of 6-06 and Phil Thomas, Chestnut Hill Academy, 3rd with the same height. Wesley Lavong, Methacton, continued his dominance in the shot put with a PA #2 heave of 57-06.25. Ian Ferguson, Springfield Delco, won the pole vault with a height of 14-00.00. David Patzer, Hempfield, was 2nd in the vault with the same height. Ferguson and Patzer join Buck and Dodds atop the PA rankings with 14-00.
Long races with close finishes
Ivo Milic-Strkalj, Friends Central, narrowly won the mile with a time of 4:25.39. Carlisle's Kyle Hurston, finished on his heels with a 2nd place time of 4:25.60. In PA the 800 meter run is notorious for narrow, nerve-wracking finishes, and in this one Michael Palmisano, Upper Dublin, scored a .04 second victory over Wade Endress, Altoona, with times of 1:58.64 and 1:58.68 for PA #5 and 6 times. Robert Micikas, Crestwood, won the 3000 meter run with a PA #1 time of 8:51.11. Neal Berman, Lower Merion, was only a few meters behind with a PA #2 time of 8:51.56.
Abby Hewitt, Latrobe, ran a swift 10:28.41 to win the 3000 meter run with a PA #2 time. Hewitt also finished 4th in the mile with a time of 5:16.12. Taylor Bumbas, Gwynedd Mercy, won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.57. Chloe Schmidt, State College, won the mile with a time of 5:09.44.
Altoona and Abington dominate premier relay events
Altoona boys won the 4x200 meter relay with a PA #4 time of 1:32.14 and the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:28.25. Central Bucks South won the 4x800 meter relay with a PA #2 time of 8:06.60. Conrad Weiser won the DMR with a time of 10:53.92.
Abington girls won the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:47.57 and the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:08.44. North Penn won the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:46.32. Lower Merion won the DMR with a time of 12:55.45.

Chante Moore, West Catholic, won the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.76. Teammate Michelle Davis won the 200 with a time of 25.60. Arielle Fonrose, Prendergast, won the 400 dash with a time of 58.68. Cardinal O'Hara's Robyn Oakley won the 800 run with a time of 2:21.88. Tamisha Thomas, Archbishop Ryan, won the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.18. Kristen Thomas, Hallahan, won the high jump with a mark of 5-04. Kelly Hooven, St. Hubert, won the long jump with a leap of 16-11.25.
In the relays West Catholic took the 4x200 with a time of 1:45.51, 3 seconds clear of Prendie. West Catholic also won the 4x400 by 2 seconds over Prendie with a time of 4:08.69. Archbishop Wood won the 4x800 in 10:16.51 and the DMR in 13:29.23.
West Catholic's Ozzie Bryan blazed through the 200 and 400 dashes, winning the 200 in 22.86 and the 400 in 51.11. John Castillo, Saint Joseph, went sub-2 with a winning time of 1:59.61 in the 800 meter run. Joe Sacchetti, O'Hara, won the mile run with a time of 4:28.51. Teammate Mike DeStefano won the 3000 run with a time of 9:09.86. Beau Whitman, LaSalle, won the pole vault with a height of 13-06, beating St. Joseph's Chris Dougherty on misses. Jason Johnson, O'Hara, won the long jump with a leap of 22-11.25.
In the relays Cardinal O'Hara won the 4x200 with a time of 1:34.01 and Bonner won the 4x400 with a time of 3:33.64.
