Kyle Garland closed out his terrific season with a second place finish in Peru at the Pan-American Junior (U20) Championships.
Garland, a rising senior at Germantown Academy scored 7,212 points to take finish only behind Team USA's George Patrick (a University of Texas athlete). Patrick amassed 7,514 points to take the win.
Garland was consistently strong throughout the two days of the ten-event competition in Trujillo. On day one, he was fourth in the 100 meters (11.33), third in the long jump (22-8), second in the shot put (46-9.5), first in the high jump (6-7.5), and fourth in the 400 meters (50.10).
On day two, Garland was first in the 110 meter hurdles (14.32), second in the discus (127-11), fourth in the pole vault (12-5.5), second in the javelin (148-7), and fourth in the 1,500 meters (4:53.83). Garland and Patrick were fairly evenly matched throughout, but Patrick gained the advantage in the long jump, pole vault, and javelin.

On Friday evening in the 5,000 meters, Nick Wolk of the University of Pittsburgh took fifth place, running 14:59.67, just behind Alec Haines of the USA, who took fourth in 14:58.00. Carlos Hernandez of Columbia won the race in a time of 14:53.93.
Knoch graduate Jordan Geist will compete in the shot put on Sunday at 11 A.M. Eastern, the final Pennsylvanian to compete at Pan-Ams.
