D4-A Girls - Team Breakdown
- A Preseason Team Rankings
- Qualifying Spots For Teams: 1
- 2017 Champion: Warrior Run (32 points)
Last year, a young Warrior Run took District 4 by storm behind one of the nation's top ninth graders and a host of other freshmen talent. That team rolled to the D4-A team title by 56 points.
The teams in D4-A are now breathing a sign of relief as Warrior Run shifting from 1A to 2A before the start of this coming school year, meaning the door is now open for a different team to capture the district title and lone state qualifying spot at Bloomsburg.
Looking to return to the state meet is Troy. This squad won the district title in 2016 and placed second place last year. Tory loses its top runner from last year, Courtney Case, but brings back the rest of its varsity team from a year ago. McKenzi Bellinger and Brooke Hinman are expected to lead the way for this team. Southern Columbia, third a year ago at districts, should also be in the hunt. State qualifier Haley Scopelliti is back, and so are five other varsity girls from a year ago. Look for this team to compete for that top spot.
Two teams that are moving from 2A to 1A this season could also make some moves towards that top spot. Loyalsock Township was third in D4-AA last season, just missing the top two and a spot in the state meet. Up front, Isabel Sagar will be the heavy individual favorite, and the squad has a number of rising seniors that will be looking to go out on a high note. Mount Carmel Area is also making the move to 1A. MCA was eighth in D4-AA last year, and brings back a young crew, led by state qualifier Caroline Fletcher. Both Loyalsock and Mount Carmel could make a big splash in 1A this fall.
