Team Breakdown: PIAA District 4 Boys

D4-A Boys - Team Breakdown

There's just one state spot up for grabs in District 4 Class A and it should be a very close battle for the win and a trip to Hershey.

Mount Carmel Area took home the district crown last fall, behind strong efforts by freshman Derek Lawler and sophomore Krystof Lapotsky. MCA does, however, lose three seniors from last year's team, so it will need to add depth this season to contend for another D4-A title.

Wyalusing Valley Area brings back five boys from last year's team that took second to Mount Carmel, 14 points off that states spot. Alex Patton and Kevin Heeman went 3-4 at districts last year, and both are back looking to lead WVA to the state meet.

Another squad with a good shot of taking home the top spot in D4-A is Southern Columbia. Led by the reigning district champ Ethan Knoebel, a rising senior, SC returns six of its seven '17 runners and will look to improve on its third place finish from a year ago.

We also can't forget about Northeast Bradford, which had a five year district championship streak snapped last season when it placed fourth at Bloomsburg. Four seniors, led by Zak Smith, are back this fall and NEB will be looking to return to the top of the district. To do that, this squad needs to add depth.
