Team Breakdown: PAISAA Girls & Boys

PAISAA Boys - Team Breakdown

Retooling is the name of the game for the top boys' PAISAA teams this season. There doesn't appear to be a clear-cut favorite heading into the season for the independent schools. The key to winning at Belmont Plateau in late October is having runners step up during the fall.

Germantown Friends will go for its fourth straight PAISAA title this season. The Tigers lose four varsity boys from last year, including their consistent leaders Zach Goldberg and Colin Riley. Miles Gomez-Younkin will be called on to lead GFS this fall, and will be one to watch for a high individual placing.

Malvern Prep was second last season and is the last team to take down GFS, which it did in 2014. Malvern also loses its 2017 leader in Peter Borger. Back, however, is Collin Hess, who ran to a seventh place finish at PAISAAs last year as a freshman. Zachary Brill was 11th as an eighth grader, so there's an impressive and young top two.

The difference maker between these teams will be how the rest of the varsity team develops and shakes out throughout the fall.

Episcopal Academy, The Hill School, and Friends' Central will also be on the hunt for high finishes in the PAISAA this fall. Each will look to add some strong pieces this year to contend with the favorites.
