Girls' High Jump Preview
Lydia Bottelier will look to add to her state gold collection on Sunday. The two-time outdoor high jump state champ is also the defending indoor champion. The Palisades senior and Pitt recruit jumped 5-08 to win last year. This year she jumped 5-10 an indoor PR to match her outdoor PR. She always brings her best to big meets and will be the one to beat.
But there's a good field of entries that will be challenging for that top spot. Two girls come in having cleared 5-08 this season: Easton's Kate Willshaw and Cheltenham's Brianna Smith. Willshaw has cleared 5-08 twice and picked up 3 major invite wins. Smith has also jumped 5-08 twice and earned six wins, including most recently at the Meet of Champs.
Twin Valley's Kayla Gillen has jumped 5-07 this season. She was third a year ago and has knocked on the doorstep of some state titles. She'll look to make Sunday her day. Calista Marzolino of Abington Heights was fourth last year at states. She comes in with a best of 5-06 this season and could challenge for the title with a big day.
Three others comes in with 5-05 season bests: Olivia Boyce (Haverford Township), Kate Donnelly (Council Rock North), and Alexia Mechling (Butler). Donnelly won the AAA state title outdoors last year and can't be counted out for a clutch day. Boyce and Mechling will look to make noise in their indoor state meet debuts.
