Raleigh Relays Brings Four New State Leads

Girls adidas Dream Mile Qualifier

With a trip to the adidas High School Dream Mile at the Boston Boost Games on the line, this race had tons of hype leading up to it. In the star studded field, Sasha Neglia (Dobyns-Bennett, TN) took the early lead with a 1:09 opening lap. NC State signee Sam Bush (Turpin, OH) was right on her shoulder and opened in 1:10. On the back stretch of the second lap Carmen Alder (Pinecrest) jumped into the lead group as the top three girls began to gap the field. Neglia held her lead and crossed the halfway point in 2:25. On the third lap Vanderbilt signee Niki Narayani (Webb, TN) joined the lead group as the pack of four hit the bell lap almost simultaneously in 3:41. With 200 meters to go it was Carmen Alder who made the first big moved, but she was immediately matched by Sam Bush. Bush made the final pass of the race with just over 100 meters to go and powered down the homestretch holding off a charging Alder to secure the victory in 4:52.82! Alder held on for 2nd in 4:53.84 which is a NC #12 all-time outdoor mark! Sasha Neglia was 3rd in 4:55.03, Niki Narayani was 4th in 4:56.18, and Ava Hassebrock (Tuscarora, VA) was in 5th and the final girl under 5:00 finishing in 4:59.38.
