Individuals Preview
Underclassmen ruled the day last year at the District 8 Championships with freshmen taking each of the two spots and sophomores taking the next two spots. Those top four are, of course, back this season in what should be a good year in D8.
McDowell's Kyla Kramer captured the top spot a year ago, running away with the win. Now a rising sophomore, Kramer will go for her second straight D8 crown. She was 155th at states. Another ninth grader -- Aurora Fuchs of Erie -- was second to Kramer last season. She took 142nd at states and will be looked at among the favorites this season, as well. Her Erie teammate, Olivia Nola (157th at states), was third in the district last season. Both girls will look to challenge for the win.
Taylor Allderdice's Evelyn Tipper took fourth at districts last year, but the rising junior was actually the highest placed D8 runner at the state meet, where she placed 121st. Tipper, who was second in the district in 2017, will once again be one to watch.
Team Preview
With a few District 10 teams moving to District 8 in 2019, the landscape of the district was shaken up. McDowell captured the district title, and with it, the lone state qualifying spot last season. McDowell returns four girls who placed inside the top ten of the district last year, led by the defending individual champ in Kramer. Also back are Angela Sbrocco, Katerina Farrell, and Claire Belton from a team that will go for its second straight District 8 Class AAA championship.
Taylor Allderdice, which won four straight D8 title before last season, will look to return to the top of the district. Tipper returns, but gone is 2017 D8 champ Maggie Lincoln. Allderdice will look to add some pieces to compete for the top spot and a berth in Hershey.
Erie, meanwhile, brings back five varsity girls from last year, paced by Nola, and will hope to challenge after a third place finish in 2018.
