Individuals Preview
Elk Lake's Krista Jones took home the District 2 crown last season. Now the rising junior will look to add another district title to her resume. She went on to place 17th at the state meet in Class A, and could be gearing up for an even better season this fall.
Jones is the only returning state medalist from D2-A, but she'll likely have a number of girls challenging that spot up front. Lakeland's Danielle Setta was second in the district last season. SHe was 56th at states and the senior will be looking to bridge that gap to Jones up front. Jones' Elk Lake teammate Sadie Bosscher was fifth in the district last season, and earned the last individual state qualifying spot. She should be in line for a return trip to Hershey.
Forest City's Rachel Korty was sixth in the district last year. Expect her to make a move towards the front this season. Holy Cross' Molly Repecki (second in the district in 2017) was seventh at districts last year. Lackawanna Trail's Victoria James, Mid Valley's Gabrielle Snee, and Old Forge's Lindsey Welsh are the other returners from the top ten of the district back this season.
Montrose's Hannah Perkins will be worth keeping an eye on. She was a state qualifier this past spring in the 1,600 meters and has run some quick 5Ks during her career. She could very well win the district this season.
Team Preview
Holy Cross will go for its third straight District 2 Class A team title this season. Five of their seven varsity runners from last season are back and the squad looks to be in the driver's seat to return to Hershey after a narrow two point defeat of Elk Lake last year to earn the one state qualifying spot in D2-A.
Repecki will lead the way for a Holy Cross squad that proved last year to have the best depth and could very well prove the same thing this season.
Elk Lake loses one girl (Shyanne Bennett, who was fourth in the district last year) to graduation. If Elk Lake can gain some depth to bridge the gap to Jones and Bosscher, they will be able to give Holy Cross a run for the district.
Montrose was just three points of Holy Cross and a point off Elk Lake last season. It loses its top girl from last season and one other graduating senior, but five varsity girls are back. Montrose will certainly be in the mix for the lone state qualifying spot.
Both Lakeland and Blue Ridge have a good group of returners that will make a push for high team finishes this season in D2-A.
