Individuals Preview

Lydia Smith of Williamsport will look to take home her second straight District 2 AAA individual title. In 2018, Smith outlasted the field to take the win. Now a senior, she'll go for the repeat.

Smith will likely be challenged by a pair of Abington Heights runners. Abby Marion was second in the district last season, just 12 ticks off Smith for the district win. Allison Dammer was fifth in the district, and she was actually the highest place finisher of any D2-AA girl at the state meet at 131st overall. Now a sophomore, she'll be one to watch.

Hazleton's Katie Balay, Delaware Valley's Laina Bogusta, and Williamsport's Katie Brue are among the other returners to watch for in D2-AAA this fall.

Team Preview

Last year, Abington Heights ran to its third straight District 2 Class AAA team title and fourth straight D2 team title counting their D2-AA win in 2015.

Williamsport Area will be looking to snap that streak this season. The Millionaires bring back their top six from last season, a squad that place third in the district. Led by Smith up front, Williamsport had three freshmen step into varsity roles last season and make an impact.

Abington Heights brings back a strong top two in Marion and Dammer, but loses four girls to graduation. The Comets are a strong program capable of retooling to make a run, though. They shouldn't be counted out.

Hazleton Area can't be counted out, either. They lose their No. 2 runner, Sarah Myers, to graduation, but six others are back led by Balay. Look for this squad, too, to make a run at the one state qualifying spot in D2.
