Marlee Starliper has committed to North Carolina State University.
The Northern senior, the No. 4 recruit in the MileSplit50 Class of 2020 rankings, chose the Wolfpack over Oregon and Northern Arizona making the announcement before family, friends, and media at her home on Sunday evening.
Starliper joins a loaded recruiting class headed to NC State next year. Riverview (FL) High School's Alyssa Hendrix, Fayetteville-Manlius (NY) High School's Claire Walters and Liverpool (NY) High School's Jenna Schulz, along with fellow PA state champion Gionna Quarzo, are among the women that have already committed to the Raleigh school.
Starliper is among the nation's top distance recruits for the class of 2020 and currently ranked US No. 4 in the MileSplit50 Girls' XC Rankings.
During Starliper's high school career, she has become one of greatest distance runners in Pennsylvania prep history and has perennially been one of the nation's top athletes in cross country and on the track.
She is a two-time PIAA Class AA state champion in cross country, and two-time Foot Locker Nationals qualifier. Starliper ran 16:30, the fastest-ever XC 5K by a PA girl, at the LVC Dutchmen Invitational. She will be looking to add her third XC state title in the coming weeks, along with another bid to Foot Locker Nationals, as well as Nike Cross Nationals, where she will be among the top girls in each field.
On the track, has personal bests of 4:37.45 for 1,600 meters, 4:39.05 for a full mile (indoors), 9:20.91 for 3,000 meters (indoors), and 9:54.75 for 3,200 meters. Indoors, she competed at the USATF Indoor Senior Championships in the two mile, where she placed 18th in 9:58.22. This past summer, she won the U20 national title in the 3K and represented the USA at the Pan-American U20 Championships, where she won a silver medal.
After a month break from racing, Starliper returns to the course on Saturday for the PIAA District 3 Championships. After that, it's the PIAA State Championships on November 2, followed by the Foot Locker Northeast Regional on November 30.
