After a rough start, Rochester grad Lauryn Williams (photo by Victah Saylor, Photorun.com) didn't panic, and came back to beat Gail Devers by .01 and Marion Jones by .04 to secure the 3rd and final spot on the US Women's 100 Olympic Team. Central Dauphin East grad Hyleas Fountain finished 4th in her first Women's Olympic Trials Heptathlon competiton. In the final three events on Day Two of her event, she went 20-03.50 in the Long Jump, for 4th place. Unfortunately, it was the Javelin that cost her a shot to make the team. Her throw of 125-03 was 15th best. She did run 2:18.85 to take 5th in the final event, the 800. In the 100 Semis, Rochester grad Lauryn Williams advanced to the finals with the 4th best time. Philly's Jon Drummond did not advance from the prelims, going 10.45. In the High Jump, McDowell grad Sheena Gordan missed advancing to the finals. She had the same height, but missed her first two attemps, and that proved to be the difference.
