Isabella Gera fired off a big US No. 2 performance on Thursday evening in the shot put in her high school gym at Hempfield Area. At the first of two Hempfield Spartans SP/PV/WT Competitions of the season, Gera put down a best put of 47-7.5 to win the shot.
That performance moves her up to US No. 2 on the season, trailing only Shenango's Emma Callahan -- also from Pennsylvania -- on the national leaderboard. Callahan threw 48-0.25 at Youngstown State this past weekend.
Gera's put is also a Hempfield Area indoor school record in the event. She supplanted the former Spartan great Mackenna Orie by two inches for the record. That put also moves Gera into the top ten all-time in Pennsylvania putting her at No. 10 in state history.
Gera also won the weight throw on Thursday with a best toss of 50-3. She is already PA No. 1 and US No. 5 in that event after a 51-4 performance at YSU last weekend. On the boys' side, Hempfield Area's Daniel Norris won both the shot put and the weight throw. Norris, a senior, won the shot with a best of 56-4.5, a PA No. 3 performance. In the weight, Norris won with a toss of 59-7, a PA No. 2.
