Ashlyn Giles made her final state meet one to remember. The Schuylkill Valley senior captured state titles in both the AA discus and shot put.
Giles threw a best of 165-4 to break the PIAA meet record in the discus. That record, previously held by Heather Colyer of East Juniata, stood at 162-10 since 1997. That was the second best discus mark of the season for Giles, trailing only her all-time Pennsylvania state record of 169-2, set at the BCIAA Firing Championship on May 14.
Giles returned later in the day to add a shot put state title. Giles edged out Shenango's Emma Callahan in a great competition between two of the nation's top shot putters. Giles put down a 49-2.25 for the win. Callahan was a close second with a mark of 48-7.5.
