Vanessa Alder returned to North Carolina and came away with a strong performance on the track at the New Balance Dash for Doobie 3200.
Alder, a Carlisle junior who moved to Pennsylvania from North Carolina before the start of this school year, placed third in the Elite 3200m race against some of NC's top runners. Alder clocked a time of 10:35.59 -- almost 30 seconds faster than her time from the Dash for Doobie last year. Lilly Walters from NC, an Alabama signee, won the race in 10:33, followed by fellow NC runner Hannah Rae Shaffer.

Alder hung with the top group for much of the race, under the lights at Ronald Reagan High School in Pfafftown, NC. As she has all XC season long, she kicked well, moving from fifth to third in the last lap.
Alder has had a strong season in her new home of Carlisle. She scored wins at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational and Salesianum Invitational, and then took third in PIAA District 3 and ninth at the PIAA State Championships in AAA.
