Watch Mia Cochran Run Two Big Races At The VA Showcase

Mia Cochran's indoor season debut was good, but just how good was it? How about six PA No. 1s good?

OK, so Cochran only ran two races at this past weekend's VA Showcase, but the senior Arkansas recruit ran six state-leading times when you count the splits from those races. But all told, it's still a fantastic start to the season for Cochran.

A little over a month removed from a very impressive eighth place finish at the Eastbay Cross Country Championships in San Diego, Cochran picked up right where she left off on, making a smooth transition to the indoor track. The Moon Area senior placed second in the invitational mile on Friday night and then returned on Saturday afternoon to capture the win in the invitational 2 mile.

Cochran went 4:51.55 to take a close second to New York's Kate Putman in the mile. Cochran led for most of the race, but Putnam put on a late move to the lead and managed to hold off a hard-charging Cochran in the closing meters. Putnam's winning time of 4:51.27 is a US No. 1 while Cochran still came away with a US No. 2 for her efforts. Cochran split a 4:33.33 (US No. 4) for 1,500 meters and 4:49.93 (US No. 2) for 1,600 meters en route to her mile time.

A day later in the 2 mile, Cochran would put the pressure on again up front. She charged to an early lead and controlled the race throughout, coming home to complete an impressive two-day double and win in 10:25.61. That time is a US No. 1 for the Moon Area senior. It's also the sixth fastest time for a full 2 miles in Pennsylvania state history.

Cochran's split a 9:46.43 (US No. 3) for 3K and 10:22.46 (US No. 1) for 3,200 meters en route to her 2 mile. What a start to her 2022!
