WEST GOSHEN, PA. - At the John Hay Distance Festival, fifth grader William Wermus looked like a vet competing for the win in his heat of the Co-ed Mile.

Wermus went out with the leaders in a 70-second opening quarter before settling into his pace and clipping consistent laps. He eventually finished in fourth with a 5:00.31.

Wermus, a ten-year-old, ran one of the fastest times by a ten-year-old in recent history. He would've broken the Age 9 World Record if he was still nine. The Age 10 World Record is 4:46.6 - held by Daniel Skandera of Santa Rosa, CA.

Skandera set that mark on July 24, 2018. He also holds the Age 5-9 World Records.

Wermus has a long way to go until he reaches the High School Ranks, but the Delaware native will be on our radar after dropping such an impressive age group mark.
