From Thursday to Sunday, New Balance Nationals Outdoor will take place at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania. The MileSplit crew will be on-site gathering content all weekend. Stay tuned to the 2024 New Balance Nationals Outdoor meet page for more information.

Today marks the first day of the national championship and action will feature middle school and freshmen races. The Championship 4xMile and Championship 5K will also take place today.

Girls Championship 5000m - 8:47 PM

Addison Knoblauch (Homestead, IN) nearly broke the meet record of 16:37.73. She ran 16:42.90 to defeat Morgan Boonshaft (Murdock Racing) and Abby Faith Cheeseman. They ran 16:45.34 and 16:45.68 respectively.

    Nolan Sutter (Minnesota) ran the fastest time of the night and secured the NBNO title. He posted a 14:36 with a 2:12 final 800m.

    Colin Whitaker (Lampeter Strasburg, PA) finished second with a stellar 14:37.92. Andrew Wilcox (Ohio), Joey Carroll (Hebron) and Matthew Giardina (Massachusetts) joined them under 14:40.

    Sophomore Jaxon Schoedel (Mohawk, PA) was sixth with his 14:42.

                  Boys Freshman Mile - 1:52 PM

                  Indiana's Calvin Seitz ran 4:20.85 to break the previous meet record and win the Freshman Mile. He closed with a 2:02.86 last 800m.

                  Tyler Tomlinson (Central Bucks East, PA) ran 4:22.45 for second and Will Pongonis (Wisonsin) was third in 4:23.26.

                  Ben Bohr (Aurora CC, Illinois) finished fourth from the fourth of five heats. He ran 4:23.98.

                  Girls Middle School Mile - 1:09 PM

                  Sydney Johnson (St. Johns Striders) decisively won the Middle School Girls Mile. She made a move to the front on the second lap and never looked back. She clocked a 5:02.60 for the title.

                  Alexandra Scappaticci (Michigan) had a strong finishing kick and went 5:04.38 for second. Julia Kelly (Pennsylvania) was third in 5:04.90.

                  Boys Middle School Mile - 12:30 PM

                  Ruel Newberry of IBTT Track Club (TX) won the boys middle school mile. He was just .06 off of the meet record. Newberry went 4:33.64 to claim the title. Gordon Smith (New York) was second with a 4:33.88 and Colton Watson (Indiana) was third in 4:34.56.
