PHILADELPHIA, Pa - In 2024 Sophia Mazzoni won her first PIAA 2A State Championship. Three weeks later, she won the New Balance Nationals Outdoor Title.
With a throw of 156-11 in the third round, Mazzoni was head and shoulders above the competition. In fact, four of her six throws would have won the National title.
Teagan Osunde (Lewisburg) finished second with a throw of 140-11, and Olivia Barr (Episcopal) finished third with her mark of 140-03.
For Mazzoni, Sunday's final was her fourth best throw of the season. Since the start of May, she has consistently hit distances north of 150-feet. At the PIAA State Championship, she broke the 160-foot barrier for the first time, with a mark of 161-10.
