State Leaders

Isaac Opperman and Chloe May earned last week's Athlete of the Week honors. Opperman won the Spiked Shoe Invitational with his stellar last mile. He outran Lewisburg's Jonathan Hess, and was able to create some separation before the closing kick.

Chloe May took home the honor on the girl's side after her win at the Saint Francis Red Flash Invitational. She won that race by nearly two minutes with her 18:42.

This weekend, there were some incredible performances in and out of state. Each week - The PA MileSplit crew will nominate multiple athletes and allow you to vote for the Runner of the Week. This week's poll will close on Wednesday (September 25th) at 8:00 pm EST.

The Week's Boys Candidates:

Nicholas Mazzeo (Lower Merion) - Mazzeo won the PIAA Foundation 3A race over a talented field of boys. Mazzeo ran 15:59 and ran the fastest time of the day.

David Giles (Wyomissing Area) - Giles won the 1A and 2A race at the Ben Bloser Bulldog Invitational. Giles ran a 15:44 which was the fastest time of the day. He led Wyomissing to a fourth place team finish.

Matt Gosling (Council Rock North) - Gosling ran 15:44 to win the Council Rock Invitational by a 20 second margin of victory. He led Council Rock North to the overall team win.

Ryan Kaiser (Neshaminy) - Posted one of the fastest times of the year with his 15:23 from the Souderton XC Twilight Invitational. His team finished third.

Kamden Kramer (McDowell) - Kramer ran 15:17 to place 11th at the adidas XC Challenge. It was a personal best effort for the senior.



The Week's Girls Candidates:

Lillian DiCola (Hatboro Horsham) - Ran 18:38 to win the PIAA Foundation Invitational 3A race at Hershey. DiCola posted the fastest time of the day.

Baylee Espinosa (Lewisburg) - Ran 18:59 to win the 2A race at PIAA Foundation. The victory marked Espinosa's third straight win at Hershey Parkview.

Emily Fisher (Somerset) - Ran 18:33 to win the Altoona Mt. Lion Invitational. The sophomore ran away from Bedford's Chloe May and won the race by 14-seconds.

Leah Navarro (Dallastown) - The freshman won the Ben Bloser Bulldog Invitational 3A race with her 18:28. It was a personal best effort for the Dallastown youngster.

Mackenzie Skelly (Penn Charter) - For the third week in-a-row, Mackenzie Skelly is up for Athlete of the Week. This time, Skelly ran 17:16 at the adidas XC Challenge to place 13th in the collegiate women's race. That is one of the top ten fastest times in Pennsylvania history.
